ISSMA Solo and Ensemble Contest Results
On Saturday, January 28, 2017,
Highland Middle School Choral
students participated in the Indiana
State School Music Assn.'s District
Solo and Ensemble contest for a
song judged by an official
adjudicator that is a professional
musician. Students began working
in class and after school with their
choral director, Mrs. Shequez
Morman, this semester. With
over 50 HMS students participating
from HMS, they formed 3 large
ensembles and 2 small ensembles.
The students were accompanied
on piano by Mrs,. Connie Nealis
and lead by student conductors,
Anna Lanes, Julia Quarrier, and
Aiden Ketchem Ebbert' in the
large ensembles,as rules state
students are unable to be directed
by their choral teacher. Students
from Chorale formed 2 of the large
ensembles with one of the groups
receiving a gold rating and the
other a silver rating. The other large
ensemble was an all male group
from advanced mixed choir also
receiving a gold rating. Each of
the small ensembles received
a silver rating.
The students did an outstanding
job representing HMS. We would
like to commend Charles Mudd
for his efforts as our photographer
at this event. Lastly, a huge thank
you to the parents for supporting
us as many of them where on
double duty as they drove back
and forth from Muncie to Fishers
as they had students performing
at both ISSMA and an AHS Show
